So looking forward to this. I thought The Social Network and The Fighter were excellent films. I assume this one is going to be excellent as well. Plus, it would be great if Colin Firth would snag the Best Actor award for this.

Jon Favreau! Good actor and awesome director. He directed Iron Man 1 and 2. Sadly he won't be directing the third Iron Man film. He opted to pursue directing other feature films. Which isn't so bad. He's a talented director who wishes to stretch his creative wings. As a glimpse of the awesome movies we can expect from Jon Favreau in the future. Here is the trailer for Cowboys & Aliens. True Grit

The nominees for the 2011 Gloden Globes was recently announced. And they showed no love for this film. It was snubbed and got no nominations. Not sure why, but I did read somewhere that this will still be a contender for the Oscars. We'll just have to wait and see I guess.

This film is adapted from a 1968 novel of the same name. It's the 2nd time it's been made into a movie. The first movie was released in 1969 and starred John Wayne in a role that won him an Oscar for Best Actor. The updated version now stars last years Best Actor winner Jeff Bridges. Along with Oscar nominees Matt Damon & Josh Brolin. Getting positive reviews for her performance as well is 14 year old actress Hailee Steinfeld.

Transformers: Dark of the Moon

Also in 2011. Transformers 3! They've titled this installment as Dark of the Moon. Don't really have high hopes with this one. Revenge of the Fallen really sucked! Michael Bay said it didn't turn out so good due to the writers strike. We'll they can't use that excuse on this one. They have major repair to do with this franchise. It's make it or break it time for the Transformers.

Pirates of the Caribbean: On Stranger Tides

The trailers for movies to look forward to in 2011 just keep rolling in. Pirates of the Caribbean is setting sail again for a fourth installment. I love the first three and so I had my fears with this one. There is such a thing as one sequel too many. I think the Pirates franchise ended on a good note with 'At Worlds Ends'. I didn't want the series to be ruined by an unnecessary follow up. Plus, Captain Jack Sparrow is on of my all time fave movie characters. But the trailer shows that the Pirates are just getting started. Captain Jack is Back!

Next year, Marvel & DC will be releasing 2 new superhero movies. Marvel presents to you, the God of Thunder, Thor starring Chris Helmsworth. And DC gives us Green Lantern starring Ryan Reynolds.

I'm familiar with both heroes. I love the actors they picked to play the parts. I've been waiting for this movies to be made since I was young. But I had my doubts on whether they would do a good job with the movies. I found it hard to imagine how they could make these two movies appealing and cool. After looking at the trailers. My doubts are gone. So excited to see these films next year.

The Toronto film festival concluded recently. And based on history, some films that are well received here went on to become Oscar Contenders. Films like 'American Beauty' and 'Slumdog Millionaire' which premiered at the festival went on to win Best Picture in the Oscars.

The Fighter - Trailer

I heard about this movie being made some time ago. It stars Mark Whalberg, Christian Bale and Amy Adams. It's a real life underdog story of a boxer(Whalberg) and his brother(Bale).

Looks like it's not a typical boxing movie. Seems there's a lot of drama involved in this movie too. And I can't believe how frighteningly thin Christian Bale is in this one.

Bruce Willis is not getting any younger. Though he's aged considerably since Die Hard. I still think he can pull off starring in action movies. In this one, it's nice to see he's embracing the fact that he is getting old. He plays a retired CIA agent who having a hard time adjusting to retirement.

Red is an action comedy starring Bruce Willis, Morgan Freeman, John Malkovich, Karl Urban, Mary Louise Parker and Helen Mirren. May I say that I just love the cast. Nice to see Mary Louise Parker in this type of movie. But the real thrill here is Helen Mirren. She won the Best Actress Oscar a couple of years back for the Queen. And in this one she kicks ass. From playing a royal to carrying a big gun and bringing hell. I don't know about you, but only a great actress can pull that off.

Machete - Trailer

What started out as a fake trailer that was shown in Robert Rodriguez and Quentin Tarantinos's Grindhouse is now a full length movie.

Not sure what to make of this. But the scene where he's in a motor cycle with a gun installed in the handle is freakin awesome. And the star studded cast is a good reason to see this. Plus, it's nice to see Danny Trejo to finally have a movie of his own.

Machete hits theaters in September and stars Danny Trejo, Michelle Rodriguez, Jessica Alba, Robert De Niro, Cheech Marin, Jeff Fahey, Don Johnson and Steven Seagal.

I lost interest with this series after Prince Caspian. I think Prince Caspian was a good film. But it just wasn't awesome. I actually can't remember anything about the movie anymore.

But looks like the film makers didn't let Prince Caspian bring down their spirits. They still pushed to make The Voyage of The Dawn Treader. The trailer looks good.

The Twilight Saga: Eclipse

I never got on board on the whole Team Edward & Team Jacob craze. I never really got the whole hype of it. After watching this film, I think I've finally had it with the Edward-Bella-Jacob triangle. I find myself to be highly annoyed with the trio. And Bella for me, is the most irritating character of all time. And coming very close in second is Jacob. I would include Edward in the list but Robert Pattinson portrayed him nicely near the end of the film. The scene where he provokes Victoria to fight him and then they duel. That was a good scene for me. Good enough for me to not include him on my list of annoying characters. But I'm putting him under probation. Let's see how he does in the next film.

Don't get me wrong. I think Kristen Stewart is an ok actress. I'm highly annoyed with the character Bella herself. Kristen Stewart played the part as it was written to be played. Consider the scene where Jacob finds out Bella and Edward are getting married. Jacob angrily walks away and Belle chases him. I think that particular scene was in the book(correct me if I'm wrong). I know of some who got irritated with Bella after they read that in the book. So of course, the same response was obtained after watching that scene in the film. So the fault does not lie on how Kristen Stewart portrayed Bella. It's just how the character is.

The love triangle between Edward, Bella & Jacob is what most people came to see. But I found myself rolling my eyes at scene's that involved them. Luckily, only half of the film is focused on them. What saved the film for me were the minor characters. It was refreshing to see Rosalie & Jaspers back stories. Jasper, who I can't recall if he ever spoke in the first two movies, is just awesome in this film.

I just realized that in New Moon, the high points for me where Alice and the introduction ofthe Volturi. And in this one was more screen time for Rosalie & Jasper. Earlier this yeas there was news of salary disputes among the actors playing the minor character. In the end they gave the actors what they wanted and everyone is coming back to reprise their role. It's a good thing they did. Because for me. The minor characters are what I'm looking forward to seeing in the next film. A background story on Emmett, Esme & Carlisle please!

The action in the movie was another high point in this film. The two previous films left me wanting. But in this film they delivered. The battle between the vampires versus Cullen with the wolfpack was awesome. My only wish was that it was longer.

In the end, the film was alright. It's the best film in the series so far. And it's good enough that you'll still want to watch the next film in the saga.

When I first heard that a movie about facebook was getting made. My first thought was that would be odd. Next I hear that David Fincher, director of The Curious Case of Benjamin Button, Seven & Fight Club is directing. Well I found it even more odd. What type of movie are they making? But since David Fincher is directing and because Seven & Fight Club are two of my favorite movies of all time. I'm definitely gonna want to see this one.

The teaser trailer for The Social Network has just been released. From the looks of it. The film seems to be about the people who made Facebook and the things that went on in establishing the site.

In the film, Jesse Eisenberg will play Facebook CEO Mark Zuckerberg; Justin Timberlake will play Sean Parker, the Napster co-founder who became Facebook's founding president; and Andrew Garfield will play Eduardo Saverin, the Facebook co-founder who fell out with Zuckerberg over money.

I think Matthew Morrison & Neil Patrick Harris' version of Aerosmith's Dream On was cool. I actually got an mp3 of it and played in a loop all day.

Plus the clip of them singing it on the show was nice and funny at the same time.

Toy Story 3

We watched this last Sunday and loved it. It still has all the elements that made us love the first one. It's exciting. It's funny. And a lot of fun.

But this one seems to get you more emotionally involved. Pixar is proving to be a master when it comes to giving you tissue moments. Last year, they did it with Up. The first 10 minutes of Up was brutal. It was a challenge for me keep the tears from falling. I'M A MAN! Real men don't cry when watching animated movies! hehe.

The end part of Toy Story 3 was brutal as well. It was harder for me to keep myself from sobbing this time around. I think anyone who's ever owned a toy would be able to relate. The main plot of Toy Story 3 revolves around Andy, who's now grown up and doesn't play with his toys anymore. What happens to Woody, Buzz and the rest of the gang now that he's heading to college? Well, the movie ends on a sweet note, but do have your tissues ready. And afterwards, you may start reminiscing about your old toys and start wondering where they are now.

After the third Resident Evil movie came out. I thought that was it. That would be the last. But surprise surprise. A fourth installment was made. Not really excited for another Resident Evil movie actually. But based on the trailer. They seem to have made this interesting enough to catch in theaters. Other than Milla Jovovich, Ali Larter(Residnet Evil 3) and Sienna Guillory(Resident Evil 2) are also back. I'm sad that Oded Fehr is not in this movie since, well, his character died in the previous movie. But to make up for it, they brought in Wentworth Miller. Nice to see the Prison Break star make a jump to the big screen. And to top it all off. This movie was filmed in 3D. Zombies in 3D. Sounds exciting!

Twilight Eclipse

I haven't read any of the books. And the first two movies didn't fully excite me and failed to convert me to a fan. But after watching New Moon. I did become curious with the novels and made me think of reading them one day. I think the story of the whole Twilight saga is a good one. It's worth the read. Film wise. Well I find the movies just OK. But I am hopeful with this third installment. The end part of the preview shows that this movie has the potential deliver that knock out punch that the previous films have been missing.

Harry Potter and The Deathly Hallows

I've read the books. I love the books. I am a Harry Potter fan. I also love the films. They've done an excellent job adapting the books on to film. But after watching The Half-Blood Prince(my favorite among the books), my excitement for the final movie sort of faded. Don't get me wrong. Half-blood Prince is a good movie. But I was so looking forward to the battle in Hogwarts, which never occurred. I understand the decision to save the battle at Hogwarts for the last films. But still, what a let down.

The lack of previews for The Deathly Hallows somehow made me forget that there are still two more Potter films coming out. Deathly Hallows wasn't even on my list of must see films this year. But the preview above changed all that. I got goose-bumps while watching it. Can't wait for part 1 of Harry Potter and The Deathly Hallows!

My Directorial Debut

At the start of December, I got an HD Flip Video Cam as an early Christmas gift from my sister. I used it on our office year end party. I recorded about an hour and half of video that night. There's no way I can upload all of it on the net because the file sizes were just too big. Plus not all of them were watchable. And so I decided to dabble with the Windows Movie Maker and just create a music video.

This is the closest I can get to ever making movies. I enjoyed making it. The end result isn't the best I could hope for. I'm still learning to use the movie maker app. But practice makes perfect. Hopefully I could get better if I can get the time to make more of these.

I previously stated that the film '2012' could walk away with the best special effects Oscar for 2009. Boy was I wrong. Talk about speaking too soon. I totally forgot that this movie was still coming out.

Avatar marks James Cameron first film since he made Titanic a year ago. I always thought he wasn't actively making films anymore since he became bloody rich after Titanic. And that the pressure of topping the number one box office hit of all time was just too much. As it turns out, he was just taking his time and working on this film.

I was totally blown away by this film. We watched it on IMAX. And it was worth it. This is an awesome movie. James Cameron, doing what he does best. Using special effects as a tool and not as a gimmick. When you see the Navi. It would never cross your mind that they are just Computer Generated images. They look so life like. Plus the story is just amazing. The moment the movie starts you'll instantly find yourself in another world.

The movie is 3 hours long. But there are only a few times when you'll notice this. Most of the time, you just can't get enough and would want more.

I'm positive that this will be one of the 10 movies to be nominated for Best Picture during the Oscars. I'm a bit sad, because there goes 'District 9' & 'Star Trek' chances of nabbing a nomination. I don't think they'll allow more than one sci-fi movie among the nominees. But then, Avatar is a truly remarkable film. I think it should win the Best Picture race. The chances of a sci-fi film winning is rather slim though. But I'm still hopeful.

Inglourious Basterds

After months of waiting for this film to be released. We finally got to watch it last night. It was exclusively showing in Robinsons cinemas. A big "THANK YOU" to Robinsons Cinemas for allowing us to watch the film without cuts.

The film focuses on two plots to assasinate Adolf Hitler who's attending a premiere in a French Cinema. Both plots aren't related to one another. And the fact that they both end up in the French Cinema is purely coincidental. Though set in World War II. This isn't really a typical war film. As Tarantino describes it, it's a spaghetti western set during the war.

You may think that this movie is filled with a lot of action and violence. But there actually only a few minutes of action in the film. Those few minutes are of course awesome. But the movies strength lies more with the script and the interesting characters.

In a Tarantino film, no character is too small. It's amazing how he can show a character only a few minutes. But you'll end up remembering them for a long time. And there are a lot of memorable minor characters here. Such as Stiglitz, the German officer who finds thrills in killing other German officers. Lt, Archie Hicox, a British officer and former film critic who finds himself in a stand off against Major Hellstrom. Major Hellstrom himself is also another memorable character.

Mike Meyers appears briefly in the film as a British soldier. When I heard he was going to appear in the film. I really couldn't picture how he would fare. Mike Meyers in a Tarantino film doesn't seem to mix. But in the end, I think he did rather well.

The most memorable small character in this film would be that played by Eli Roth. The Bear Jew. I think he has one of the coolest character introduction of all time. He's in a tunnel and all you can hear is a baseball bat banging on the wall. The bang gets louder and louder as he comes closer. And when he finally emerges from the tunnel, he is all so sinister and blood thirsty. Though the thought of him bashing someones brain out is rather appalling. You're a little bit excited to see him do it.

The major characters in the film are amazing as well. French actress Melanie Laurent plays the part of Shosanna, a jew who was able to escape from the massacre of her entire family. She now owns a small theater and is presented with an opportunity to avenge her family's death and wipe out all the Nazi head officers.

Brad Pitt is the main star of this film. He plays Lt. Aldo Raine, the leader of the Basterds. Though it seems his screen time is a tad short for a lead. His few min on screen are just pleasant. Pitt has mastered speaking in hilarious southern accent. He speaks it so well that he still has it when he tries to speak Italian. It's one of my favorite scenes in the movie.

Christopher Waltz is labeled as a supporting actor. But he shines the most in this film. His performance gives us a classic villain. One for the ages. SS Officer Hans Landa, is a ruthless and highly intelligent officer. Scenes where he appears can drive chills to your spine for fear of what he may do. But the beauty in Waltz' performance is that he played Landa as a complete gentleman. In scenes where he appears, Landa is mostly gracious, polite and articulate. The fact that Waltz can play someone to be so charming and yet frightening is just brilliant. I think he'll definitely walk away with the Best Supporting Actor award during the Oscars.

Tarantino has a bizarre and unique way in making movies. His style of film is unique to him and I don't think can be imitated by anyone. I know some have tried and none have come close. Only he can end his movie with a rewrite in history and still pull it off. With Inglourious Basterds, Tarantino gives us his best work. The last line spoken by Aldo Raine in the movie accurately describes what the film is. It is his masterpiece.

New Moon

Here now is the second installment to the hugely popular Twilight saga. I have not read any of the books. And up until this movie, I had no intentions of reading it at all. Now I'm considering it. I didn't read any of the books so that I wouldn't feel disappointed with the movie. As with most movie adaptations of novels. The book is often better than the movie.

This movie somehow sparked my interest more in the saga. The first movie focused on Bella Swan and her relationship with hot vampire Edward Cullen and his vampire family. This movie expands our knowledge of the Twilight universe by focusing on werewolf Jacob Black and and his clan. Or should I say pack of wolves. Other than that, this movie also introduces us to the Volturi. They are the the leaders of the vampire race who are very fierce and very powerful.

This movie showed me why the books are very popular. The premise is quite interesting. And something to look forward to. At the end of the film, I actually wanted to know what happens next.

Though the story is nice and all. The dialogue isn't quite good. I know this isn't suppose to be Shakespeare or anything. But the conversations seemed rather plain to me. Plus the acting wasn't the best either. The young stars Robert Pattinson, Kristen Stewart and Taylor Lautner have a lot of potential. But they still have a lot of growing to do in terms of acting. They should take the opportunity to learn from they're veteran co-stars Michael Sheen and, agree with me or not, Dakota Fanning. Among the young and relatively new cast however. One seems to shine in this film. Ashley Green has done a terrific job playing Alice. Her character is now one of the most interesting characters of this series.

From what I've heard. The book was rather boring. So I have to give credit to the filmmakers for making this movie exciting. Though a lot of improvements still need to be made. This movie has already greatly improved from the first one. And somehow, I have a feeling that the next movie would definitely be better than this one. Indeed the Twilight series is a very exciting saga to follow. It has made a follower out of me.

From the director of Independence Day, Godzilla and The Day After Tomorrow. Roland Emmerich gives us another film where he destroys the world in spectacular fashion. How does he destroy the world this time? Well, the world ends due to a massive solar flare caused by planet alignment, which in turn heats the earths core and causing crust displacement. This is supposedly has happened billions of years ago and caused the extinction of the dinosaurs. The ancient Mayans have predicted that it will happen again in the year 2012. I must say, I found this theory interesting and cool. And the movie did an excellent job of explaining it.

Though Roland Emmerich has proven that he's the best when it comes to the apocalypse. His act for story telling seems to have taken a step in the wrong direction. The movie feels like it tries too hard to find an excuse to be able to show you visually stunning sequence. But I think that was the intention all along. The film makers didn't set out to make a great film. I think they're goal was to give the audience a visual effects extravaganza. Which they did successfully. It's still to early to say. But I think this film will bag the visual effects & best sound editing Oscars next year. The special effects, regardless of what silly excuse they thought of to show you this, is a lot of fun & worth seeing.

This movie also features a terrific cast. I think the director has a talent for is choosing the right actors to star in his film. This film stars John Cusack, Chiwetel Ejiofor, Amanda Peet, Woody Harrelson, Oliver Platt, Thandie Newton, Jimi Mistry & Danny Glover. All pretty likable and talented actors. It's nice to see them in this type of film. And though some may disagree, I think they gave good performances and turned the characters they portray to be interesting ones.

To sum it up. This film is alright. It's a lot of fun as long as you don't pay too much attention to the plot.

Julie & Julia

Julie Powell(Amy Adams) is an aspiring writer who never caught a break. And thus she works as a call center customer care person for an insurance company. Not a pleasant job since you're getting nothing but complaints the whole day. At the end of a stressful day, she finds comfort in cooking. One day she decides to try cook every recipe written in the famous cook book 'Mastering the Art of French Cooking' by Julia Child(Meryl Streep), and write a blog about it.

As we watch Julie go through every recipe, the movie also shows us the life of Julia Child when she was still living in Paris. A time when she was still learning to cook and beginning to write her cook book.

Though Julie & Julia live decades apart. They somewhat lived similar lives, and both found joy in cooking.

A lot of people may be able to relate to this movie. If you're the type who's stuck in a job that you do because you need to do it and not because you love it. And what thrills you in life are the stuff that you do when we get out of the office. Such us eat, cook, sports, movies, photography etc. Then this movie is for you.

If you can't relate to this movie. Well that's OK. It's is still worth seeing. The story, other than being true, is both inspiring and entertaining. The acting is of course top notch. Plus the food is just mouthwatering. After seeing this movie you may want eat up a feast and even want to learn how to cook. Brace yourselves. Diet's will be broken. I know mine was. :D

Red Cliff

I've been waiting for almost a year for this movie to be released here. And last night, I finally got to watch it.

It's a film about the battle of Red Cliff which occurred during the period of the Three Kingdoms in China. This period was the bloodiest period in the history of China.

Why am I so excited about a movie about this?

Well to begin with. This is the most expensive movie ever produced by China. And the most successful too. It beat Titanic as the highest grossing film in China.

Second, it features some of Asia's finest and brightest actors like Tony Leung(Lust, Caution), Takeshi Kaneshiro(House of Flying Daggers) and Zhao Wei(So Close).

And to top it off. This film is directed by John Woo. Bloody era plus masterful action director, equals a bloody historic action epic!

Well at least that's what I was expecting.

Red Cliff was originally released in China as two movies. Each with a length of about two hours. For the international audience, the two films where combined and about 90 minutes was trimmed off to form just one movie. And this is the version that we got to see.

I was dismayed a few minutes into the film. As it turns out. This version is dubbed in English. And the dubbing wasn't of good quality. Regardless of that, the film still turned out to be alright. It redeemed itself with the battle scenes. John Woo showing us why he one of the best action director in the world. He was able to show us the battle techniques and formations used in those days and still made it look cool.

This is not the best version of this film. But that says a lot. If a downgraded version of this movie came out rather good. Then just imagine just how much better the original version could be. I'm excited to find out.

The Young Victoria

Cza and I we're walking around Greenbelt 3 and stumbled upon Young Victoria which was exclusively showing there. I've always wanted to see a movie about Queen Victoria. So yeah, I asked Cza if we could watch, and I'm so glad she said yes.

I saw a trailer for this film about a week before and wasn't totally excited with seeing Emily Blunt in the title role. Don't get me wrong. I think she has a lot of talent. But playing a Queen, I had my doubts.

As we watched the movie, Emily Blunt proved me wrong. She pulled it off quite nicely. She played the young Queen as being fragile and like your typical teenage girl. But when the time came for her to be strong, she was.

This movie is a bit like Elizabeth. It's a movie about a young lady who ascends to the throne. Except that this one is a rather teen flick version of that film. As the title states, this is a movie about the Young Victoria. The film does focus Victoria's life and struggles before, during and after her coronation. But it also primarily focuses on her romance with Prince Albert, who was played excellently by Rupert Friend. In this movie, Prince Albert is a rather shy and lost for words kind of fellow. But eventually wins the heart of Victoria, finds his voice, and becoming the perfect match for Victoria in ruling the kingdom.

Queen Victoria's life is already a fascinating read in wikipedia. And this movie is about 90% accurate in depiction. So to put it quite simply, this movie is fascinating.

District 9

The movie is told as if you were watching a special on the Discovery channel. Your shown news footage's and interviews from experts about the aliens that landed in Johannesburg, South Africa(Finally! The aliens didn't land in America, "The only country aliens seem to land in" hehe ). The aliens, which are referred to as "prawns" because of their appearance, didn't come to conquer or wipe out the human race. Instead, they find themselves unable to go back to they're mother ship and is stuck in our planet. And in typical human fashion, the alien refugees are segregated and are all housed in government camp known as District 9.

Twenty years later, District 9 has turned into the slums. The government has decided to relocate the aliens to an area that's far away from Johannesburg which they've named District 10. As policy, in order to move the aliens, they must be served with relocation papers and sign them. And the man assigned with this task is a government worker named Wikus van de Merwe, who's also main character in this film. The trouble starts when Wikus serves the relocation papers to the aliens. At this point as well, the movie shifts from the news footage to the actual story concerning Wikus. This is also where the fun begins. Don't want to give away what happens next as not to spoil it, but it's fascinating.

No big names in this movie except for producer Peter Jackson. None of the actors are well-known which is why the films style works. The movie presents a different view of humans and aliens. The aliens have superior technology, higher intelligence and strength. But they are not an aggressive race. Primarily because their leaders died and they've got no one to lead them. The villains in this movie are us humans, who wants nothing more than to harness the alien technology. Indeed this is highly unique and awesome film. It's one of the best movies of the year. Go see it!

Time Travellers Wife, Up & GI Joe

The Time Travellers Wife

Didn't know anything about this movie going in. I think I only saw the trailer once. I prepared myself for a boring love story. But the movie is actually quite nice. The story was unique and could have been quite confusing if not told properly. But the film makers did a good job in telling it. And good job for stars Eric Bana & Rachel McAdams. They were able to properly convey to the audience what their characters were going through in their unusual circumstance. It's a nice story and good enough movie to watch.

Up

When you watch an animated movie. You expect some laughs, thrills and a lot of fun. But once in while, a cartoon can also make you cry. This is one of those type of cartoons. Best bring some tissue with you if your the type to cry easily. I nearly broke into tears myself. Luckily I was able to keep it together. Never has a cartoon made me cry since since Bambi's mom was killed.

Not to worry. Though their are some sad moments in this film. There are plenty of fun ones too. It's a very fun and heartwarming movie overall. We're planning to watch it again in 3D.

Oh and if your going to watch this. Do try to enter the cinema early. They're going to show a short animated film before they play Up. It's called 'Partly Cloudy'. It's something you shouldn't miss.

GI Joe: The Rise of Cobra

Ever since I heard they were going make this movie, I was excited for it but wasn't expecting it to be any good. The trailer didn't help lift my hopes up. When it came out, well as expected, certified critics and wanna-be-discussion-forum-critics aren't showing any love for it. But I on the other hand loved it.

This movie somehow brought back the child in me. When I used to watch this everyday when I came home from school. I was highly entertained with the simplicity of a team of heroes fighting a team of villains in an awesome action packed battle involving cool weapons and vehicles. This movie contains all those, and that's all I need to enjoy it. This movie is absolutely crap-tastic and I'm looking forward to a sequel.

The Lovely Bones Trailer

I haven't seen the trailer yet though. I have to wait till I get home because they don't allow video streaming here in the office. I first got curious with this movie when I first read that Peter Jackson bought the rights to the novel and will direct the film. After reading that, I went to Powerbooks at the Greenbelt walkway and bought myself a copy of the novel. Since The Lord Of The Rings director liked the book enough to make a movie out of it. Then it must be an awesome book.

Unfortunately, I've only read half of the book. I got busy of all of a sudden and never found time to finish it. But based on what I've read. The story is rather interesting and it does seem to be nice. The movie comes out in December. Hence, I'm putting reading 'The Lovely Bones' back on top of my to do list.

Why so Sirius?

I've been wanting and saving up for a laptop for a while now. But expenses here and there always prevented me from buying one sooner. My plan was to get one in December no matter what. But last Saturday, Cza was going to buy one for herself and one for her brother. And so I just went and said 'oh the hell with it. i'm getting one too!'.

Let me introduce you to Sirius...

Why Sirius? Well I originally wanted to give it a girls name. But i think partly because Harry Potter is out in cinemas and that it's colored black. Somehow Sirius Black just seemed to be good name for it. And so I stuck with it.

This entry marks the first of hopefully many entries made with Sirius. It's by far the most exciting entry I've ever made. The picture above was uploaded using Sirius' card reader. We're not up to date with technology here at our house. Our current PC was hip during the stone age. So please have sympathy for me when I say that the card reader, is pretty damn AMAZING!.. hehehe

it' s been a while since my last post. i think i have writers block. well mostly i'm just lazy too. i've seen a lot of movies after star trek. i wanted to make an entry about them but couldn't find the strength or words to describe them.. i have a lot of unfinished entries too. such as the rest of our hong kong trip, our boracay trip, food trips, movies, my birthday etc.. not sure why but i just can't seem to to bring myself to type further after i've typed the title.... back in college i read that thte best way to get over writers block is to simply just type. it's also the tip that sean connery gives his student in the movie finding forrester... "ust write. don't think. just write. don' worry about spelling, grammar or anything else.. just write.. you can fix it later".. well that's not how he said it verbatim.. but something like that.. that's basically the point of this entry. hehehe.. just me writing down my thoughts.. typing down whatever comes to mind. it's not as easy as it seems.. it's a loty of fun sure. but the thing is. i have a lot of thoughts that are coming into mymind. and i'm a slow typer. so by the time i get to type a single thought. about 4 thoughts have already come and gone. never to be typed. because my thoughts move faster than my typing speed. howell.. so again.. this is just me. free writing.. if your wondering where im heading with this. well, basically nowhere. hehehehe. just wanted to try something. give it a try. it's actualy fun. no need to worry about proer punctuation, spelling and grammar.. just type.. it's actually quite liberating. hehehe..

Issabil, a very good friend of mine for 10 years. He started out as our entire family's friend. But eventually became solely mine. We've been through a lot together. He was a big help when we were working on our thesis during college. He was there when I graduated. He was there when I got my first, second and third job. He was there for all my ups and downs for the past ten years.

Together we've gathered our friends for nights out of the town. Together we've gone to places here in the Philippines such as Boracay, Cebu, Bohol, Baguio etc. Together we've gone to places out of the country such as The US, Singapore, Malaysia, London & Madrid. He was there for all of my out of country trips except for Hong Kong where he roamed somewhere else.

Together we've sent about a million Valentines, Birthdays, Christmas & New Years greetings to friends & family. And together we've sent and received about a million "I Love You Dear" messages.

Star Trek

I'm not a die hard Trekkie, but this is one of the movies this year that I was most excited to see. I'm fascinated with Star Trek and all but never fully become a fan. The previous Star Trek movies that I've seen, I found rather OK. But They never blew me away. I always felt they lacked action and wished they were more exciting. Now comes this new movie directed by JJ Abrams and well, I finally got to see the type of Star Trek film I hoped to see.

This is the most exciting Star Trek movie that I've seen. I'm not sure if the original fans would be happy with this one though. I think this version moves away from the original concept that made Star Trek popular. But from the stand point of a non-hardcore fanatic, I found this movie brilliantly amazing. If your not a fan of Star Trek. You may become one after you watch this.

X-Men Origins: Wolverine

The summer blockbuster movies are here. Kicking things off is X-Men Origins: Wolverine. Since this is the first summer blockbuster of the year to come out. I took it upon myself to gather everyone to watch it. I sent out an email to my friends, reserved seats for us through sureseats and we watched it on the very first day it was released.

Though it may not seem like it, I was only semi excited for this film. I like Wolverine and Hugh Jackman and all. But after the huge let down that is X-Men: The Last Stand. I felt that the X-Men movies are on their way down. And besides, last years The Dark Knight pretty much set the bar way high for super hero movies. There's no way Wolverine can match Batman.

After seeing the movie. Well I could say that this is better than X-Men: The Last Stand. The action sequences is quite impressive. I wasn't familiar with directors(Gavin Hood) previous work. I knew he directed Tsotsi, which I've heards is a good movie. I've never really seen it but based on his work on this movie, I may have to find myself a DVD of it.

Going back, the action in this movie, as I've said is impressive. And there's a lot of it too. The opening sequence alone features Wolverine and his half-brother Sabretooth fighting in the Civil War, the two World Wars and Vietnam. It's never really explained though why two Canadians keep fighting in each war the US is involved in. I guess it's to show how old they are and just how much of a beast they can be.

The entire movie can be best describe that way. It's one action sequence to another. Each scene in between just tries to set you up for the next action scene. It does a good job, however, of introducing new mutant characters and their abilities. Ryan Reynolds appears briefly in the film as Deadpool. He has a short action scene which may lead to spin off movie of his own. Comic book fans will also be thrilled that Gambit is also in this movie. Taylor kitsch did a good job playing him and his powers and abilities are nicely depicted in the movie.

To sum it up, the main plot of the movie isn't really something to look forward to. But the action, the mutants and the actors playing them are a good enough reason to come and see this movie.

alright.. i'm gonna finally admit it to everyone and more importantly to myself.. i am a Naruto FREAK!..

naruto isn't really something new. it's been around for some time now. i've heard of it, but only got introduced to their world last year. i was able to obtain a copy of the Naruto Ultimate Ninja heroes game for my psp. i played it and liked it. as i played more and more of got i slowly got curious with each of the playable characters.

anyway, that led me to buy a DVD of all the Naruto Anime Episodes. and wow! i am totally hooked! :D.. when i start watching the dvd, i struggle to stop. i can't wait to see what happens in the next episode.

in my defense, this isn't really the first time i got hooked to an anime series. i got previously hooked to samurai X, gundam seed, yu yu hakusho(ghost fighter), chobits & flame of recca. so this might just be another craze which will eventually run it's course. but honestly i hope it doesn't. hehehehe

Boracay 09 (sneak peek)

Hong Kong - Day 1

More than a week has passed since we got back from Hong Kong. When you go away for a vacation, what awaits you when you get back is a ton of work. I had to catch up on work which is why I haven't gotten around to posting anything about our highly enjoyable Hong Kong & Macau trip. And yeah, I was feeling lazy too.

Date: 03-18-2007, Wednesday
The day of our much awaited and well planned Hong Kong-Macau trip has finally arrived. We met up at the airport around 6am, checked in our baggage, paid an enormous travel tax(P2000! it's a robbery!), went through immigration, grabbed a quick bite, boarded the plane around 7:30 and was off the ground by 8:15.

We arrived at the Hong Kong airport at around 10am. We met up with Pete and Aims there who were coming from Singapore. From the airport, we needed to go to the Dragon Hostel in Mong Kok, where we were going to stay. To get there we took the A21 bus and got off at the corner of Nathan Rd and Argyle St. The Hostel is located about a block away from the bus stop.

After checking in and leaving our baggage at Dragon Hostel, we proceeded to grab something to eat. We were really hungry and time was precious. So we ended up eating at McDonald's.

On top of our itinerary for the day was a trip to Ngong Ping and see the Giant Buddha. So after eating it was off to Mong Kok Train Station.

To get to Ngong Ping, we rode the train and got off Tung Chung station.

Upon exiting the Tung Chung train station, you'll immediately see the Citygate mall. This is number two on our days itinerary. So more on this later.

Now comes the exciting part in going to Ngong Ping. In order to get there, we get to ride on a Cable Car.

Ngong Ping Cable Car... duh!

We have arrived at Ngong Ping. We took a little walk at Ngong Ping village to try and get closer to the Giant Buddha.

This is the closest we got to the Giant Buddha. We would have gone further. But it was hot and we were tired of walking. Plus, next on our itinerary was to do some shopping at Citygate. We definitely need more time and energy for that.

And so ends our journey to Ngong Ping. We waved goodbye to the Giant Buddha and headed back the same way we came.

Here we are again at Citygate. If you happen to be in Hong Kong and is looking to do some shopping. You should definitely come here. Items are sold at 50% off and above. I never intended to do any shopping in Hong Kong. My sole purpose for our trip was just to do some site seeing. But I ended up buying myself a couple of Giordano jeans for P600 a piece.

We didn't take any pictures inside Citygate. Everyone was busy shopping. We also had early dinner at the food court here. Cza & I ate some noodle soup. The food court is really nice. But again, no pictures because at this point we were so hungry. Nothing on our minds except food.

After we've filled our tummies. We rushed back to Tung Chung station to get to our last destination for the day, the Avenue of Stars. We needed to get there by 7:30pm so that we could watch the Symphony of Lights. And so we got on the train and got off at Central Station. From there we briskly walked to the Avenue Of Stars. We got there just in the nick of time. The Symphony of lights had just started.

The lights show was really nice. I was able to capture a bit of it on video. It's not too good however. But you can watch it here if you want.

After the light show we walked around the avenue of stars and, what else, took more pictures.

The one thing I was determined to get here in the Avenue of Stars was a picture in front Bruce Lee's statue. And sure enough, we were able to find it and get a picture.

After this we just headed back to the Dragon Hostel and called it a nght. It was a long, tiring and highly enjoyable first day in Hong Kong.

It's Monday again and the weeks off to a good start so far. Not much email on work yet. I hope it stays that way, particularly because I have only 2 days of work. The week of our Hong Kong trip has finally arrived. We'll depart for Hong Kong on Wednesday and come back on Sunday. Cza's sanity keepers have been taking care of our itinerary. M Cafe

M Cafe at the Ayala Museum. I've passed by this place hundreds of times walking from the office and heading to Glorietta. It's a nice and classy place which I was curious to dine in. I have some friends though who've dined there previously and said that the place was nice, but the food is expensive and not really that good. Hence dining at M Cafe became just a distant memory. It actually came to the point that I didn't know the name of the restaurant anymore.

Yesterday, Mike & Anne invited us to join them at M Cafe. We said yes, and I thought "M Cafe... hmmmm.. that sounds vaguely familiar". I couldn't remember were exactly it was, but I was sure it was at Greenbelt. so Cza and I parked Troopie at Greenbelt 5 and asked the Security Guard at the mall where it was. He said it was at Ayala Museum, and that's the only time I started to remember.

And so we began our long walk from Greenbelt 5 to M Cafe. Passing by the ATM first, because we were expecting the food there to be expensive. When we got there, Mike & Anne were already seated and had ordered the tandoori chicken and braised ribs for us. They said the food was good for sharing and that we should order one more. Looking at the menu I found that not all the dishes were expensive. The price of the dishes ranges from P300 to P1000. Cza left it up to me to choose which dish to order. And being the budget freak I am now, I ordered the Crispy Liempo which costs around P300. hehe

The inside of M Cafe is quite nice. It's classy and cozy at the same time. The few paintings and pieces of art hanging around are pleasing to eye. Outside the cafe is a bar area which nice too. It's a nice place to have a few cocktails.

We had enjoyable dining experience at M Cafe. Unlike what I was expecting, the food was actually good. I was so full afterwards too. I think we would have done alright had we ordered only two dishes. But all three dishes were actually worth trying out.

Jogging

Cza and I decided to try out jogging. We both thought it's an excellent way to get in shape. Plus it's FREE! hehe

Originally we were supposed to go jogging around The Fort area. We see a lot of joggers whenever we go there. On our way there yesterday, while we were in traffic along Jupiter St. We decided to jog at Legaspi park instead. There is a jogging path there and it would be easier for us to find one another in case we get separated while jogging. And so off to Legaspi park we went..

The moment we got there, I knew it was a good idea already. It was already around 7pm and so the parking was free. Upon entering the park I was surprised to see a lot of joggers. A whole lot more than I expected. Which is actually a pleasant site. I got more motivated to jog. I jog regularly at the treadmill in the gym and I wanted to show off to the other joggers what I was capable of.

And so we started jogging. After two rounds around the jogging path, I was already out of breath. I'm really out of shape. hehe.. I forgot that jogging outdoors is not the same as on a treadmill. It's easier on the treadmill. Jogging outdoors is much harder but is more effective in my opinion.

I walked around the path for a while to catch my breath and started to jog again. I was able to jog five rounds this time(YES! my personal best!). I walked two rounds and jogged for three more. Walked two rounds again and jogged for a final 3 rounds.

I think we did pretty well on our first try at jogging. We're planning to do this regularly. I certainly hope we do. I used to jog regularly around San Lorenzo park back in college. I was also trying to loose weight back then. I remember liking it because it did help me loose weight and flatten my tummy up a bit. I think jogging is more effective than doing crunches. Well maybe the best way would be to do crunches and then jog after.. Anyway, let's see if our jogging will indeed help us in our quest for fitness.

The Watchmen

I didn't know much about The Watchmen going into the cinema. All I know was it's based on a graphic novel by Allan Moore and that it's one of the best graphic novels of all time. I was originally planning to buy a copy of the novel and read it before the movie came out. But then I thought I might just end up getting disappointed with the movie if I read the novel beforehand. And so I avoided learning anything about The Watchmen and just wait for the movie. I think this was a good move on my part. Because I ended up liking the movie.

It's not your typical superhero film. You may get dismayed of you watch this expecting it to be like Spider-man, X-men or Iron Man. This movie is more like V for Vendetta(also an Allan Moore graphic novel) but has more action in it.

The story takes place in an alternate history where costumed vigilantes walked among us and affected certain moments in history. One of the most notable changes in history was the Vietnam war. With the help of Dr Manhattan, the only Watchmen with superhuman powers, America was able to win. And this victory resulted in Nixon getting re-elected as president. Now it's 1985, Nixon is still president, super heroes are abolished and the US is on the brink of nuclear war with Russia. At this same time, The Comedian, a member of The Watchmen, is thrown off his apartment window and is killed. This prompts his fellow Watchmen Rorschach to investigate who the murderer is. Rorschach theorizes that someone is killing off former superheroes. But his investigation leads him to uncover something far more bigger.

The movie is rather long, moves in a slow pace and has a series of flashbacks. But I didn't really have a problem with this because I found the visuals so stunning. Zack Snyder used the same techniques he used when he directed 300. Literally bringing the comic book image to life on the big screen. Like 300, the results were amazing.

The members of the Watchmen are all individually interesting characters. All the actors who played them did a great job representing them in the movie. Billy Crudup, who's voice and image was used to create the computer generated Dr Manhattan, was able to effectively speak as one who is losing touch with humanity. Mathew Goode was believable as Ozymandias. The smartest man in the world who, without conscience, will do what it takes to save the world. Patrick Wilson, Malin Akerman and Jeffrey Dean Morgan were good playing Nite Owl, Silk Spectre and The Comedian respectively. But among the actors, Jackie Earl Haley stood out as Rorschach. He was the toughest and most interesting character of them all. Haley portrayed him excellently. My favorite scene in the movie was when Rorschach was in prison, and after splashing an inmate with boiling oil he says "You just don't get it... I'm not locked in here with you. You're all locked in here with me!". Best scene in the movie!

The Watchmen is a dark and complex story. It's the type of story that can most effectively be told as a graphic novel. Turning this into a movie is extremely difficult. So my hats off to Zack Snyder. I think no one else could have done a better job. Though the movie is long, it's actually rich in detail and excitement. It's a long movie I'd love to sit through and watch again.

It's Friday once again! The weekends almost here. In a few minutes from now, Cza and I will be heading to her family's home in Guimba. We're going to be spending the weekend there for the fiesta. Hopefully we could get lots of pictures. We haven't been taking pictures for quite some time now. Our cameras, Rhino & Cammie are due for some exercise.

Oooooh! I just remembered I haven't told my parents about me going away this weekend. hehehe.. Aren't I the good son...... Ok. There, I just sent them a text message telling them about this weekend. hehehehe..

The Watchmen

The Watchmen is out in cinemas today. I've been looking forward to seeing this movie. Don't know much about the story or what to expect. All I know is that this based on a ground breaking graphic novel which I think first introduced the idea of flawed superheroes. It sounds interesting enough... I've read some early feedback in PEx from ones who've already watched it. Some say it's long, complex and boring. But some say it's awesome and spectacular. Whether it's a good movie or not, I'll be the judge. But I'll have to wait till Sunday or Monday to watch it.

Naruto

I became a fan of Naruto after playing the Ultimate Ninja Heroes game on my PSP. I knew nothing about Naruto before that. While playing the game, I found the characters and the premise quite interesting and got hooked. I loved the whole ninja, hokage, chakra, jutsu etc things so much that I bought DVDs of the entire series. I've only been able to watch like 15 episodes of it yet though. But I liked the few episodes I've watched. Will get around to watching all the episodes some time.

Just yesterday, I was able to obtain a copy of Naruto Ultimate Ninjas 2: The Phantom Fortress for my PSP. I've only been playing it for less than a day, and I like it already. Though, there are only a few changes/upgrades from the 1st game. I still found it exhilarating.

Late Night With Jimmy Fallon

I was planning to watch this last night at midnight. But I was dead tired when I got home at around 10:30 and didn't get a chance. Luckily I was able to catch a glimpse of Jimmy Fallons late night debut this morning while CJ was still using the bathroom.

I think he did fairly well. His first guest was Robert De Niro who doesn't make much guest appearances on talk shows. He's not much of a talker as he puts it. But Jimmy handled there scipted segment quite alright. You can tell he was a bit awkward and nervous. It's understandable. It's his first show and he needs time to get comfortable.

His second guest was Justin Timberlake. I didn't get to watch this portion however. CJ was finally done with the bathroom by this time and it was my turn. But I've read that it was one of shows winning moments.

I hope Jimmy Fallon does well in the long run. I think he shows promise as the host of late night. He got high ratings for his first show. So he's off to a good start.

Street Fighter: The Legend of Chun Li

And comes the first movie of the year which I did not enjoy. But I cannot say I was disappointed with this movie. Particularly because I never expected this to be a good one. But even though I didn't expect this movie to be good. I still watched it at the chance that I might be surprised and that it turns out to be fine. This movie met my low expectations.

Kristin Kreuk stars as Chun Li. She definitely has a very beautiful face. But that face of hers can't seem to properly portray any emotion on screen. Scenes when she cries comes off as exaggerated. And scenes where she's supposed to be fierce aren't effective because her face is so pretty and she still looks like a nice person.

The same goes with Chris Kline who plays Charlie Nash. He's supposed to be this really tough Interpol cop. And he tries to make his face look like he's a really tough guy. But it only results in him looking goofy. I laugh every time he appears in a scene and he's trying to act all macho.

I think Kreuk and Kline both have the potential to become brighter stars than they already are. They just need to hone their acting skills more. They can start by looking into a mirror and practice which face works in displaying a characters emotions on screen.

Michael Clark Duncan and Neal Mcdonough also star in this movie as Balrog & Bison. They're the villains here. Bison is the main villain and Balrog is one of his henchman. Both of them are respectable actors. But appearing in more movies like this could loose the respect they have. Michael Clark Duncan did rather OK however. He didn't do anything to further lower this movie.

Mcdonoughs portrayal of Bison however is rather odd. Bison is supposed to be someone of pure evil with no good left inside him. But like Kreuk & Kline, Mcdonough doesn't look at all evil. It's kinda hard to find him scary. And another weird thing is his Irish accent. In this movie, Bison's origin is that he was the son of an Irish couple who migrated to Bangkok. His parents died when he was just a few months old and he grew up in the streets of Thailand. If he grew up in Thailand, then why does he still have an Irish accent. It seems the Irish accent is genetic.

This movie basically did a lot of wrong things. They even forgot to put in subtitles. The few fight scenes, though short, were rather alright. I wish I could say that this is a movie is based on a video game and should not be taken seriously. But the way this movie is depicted on screen states that it should be. The first Street Fighter movie was a bit cartoonish and ridiculous. But at least it was fun to watch and it appeals to kids. This version attempts to be the cooler Street Fighter movie but only succeeds in turning the first movie to be the better one.

Movie filled weekend

We got to watch a lot of movies this past weekend. Four movies to be exact.

Confessions of a Shopaholic
I have a fondness for beautiful ladies who can make me laugh. It's one of the reasons why I'm with Cza.(*mush*) Rising star Isla Fisher was an excellent choice to star in this movie. She played shopaholic Rebecca Bloomwood with charm and humor.

Though this is considered a chick flick. It's a movie that even REAL MEN SUCH AS MYSELF can enjoy. It's not the type of movie that will get you to drop to the floor and burst out laughing. But it's funny enough and definitely worth watching.

Gran Torino
I've already watch this previously on DVD(click here for my review) . I went and watched it again since Cza hasn't watched it yet. I don't mind having to watch a movie again. Especially if it's a good one. Second time around, this movie is still awesome. I think I even enjoyed it more. There really is a difference between watching a movie at home on DVD and watching it on the cinema. I find watching in the cinema more enjoyable. And I guess it's also more fun to enjoy a good movie with other people. And I'm glad to say Cza liked this movie too.

Valkyrie
I've been looking forward to seeing this movie since it was still being shot. I wasn't excited about this because it starred Tom Cruise. I was excited to see it because it was directed by Bryan Singer. He's the director of X-Men, X-Men: United and Superman Returns. But I actually became a fan of Bryan Singer after watching his very first movie, The Usual Suspects. It's one of my favorite movies.

This movie is about a group of German soldiers plotting to assassinate Adolf Hitler. They do this to show the world that not all Germans are as evil as Hitler and his Nazis. This is based on a true story and if you read back on World War II history, you could already get an idea of how the movie is going to end. But though this movie is spoiled by history, Bryan Singer still managed to make this movie thrilling and even make you even hope that what you've learned in history class was wrong. There's not much action sequences in this movie. A whole lot more of chatting and plotting which remarkably will keep you on the edge of your seat.

He's just not that into you
This is a fairly enjoyable movie. It features intertwined characters and their experiences with relationships. Each story is different and quite interesting. But I have to say my favorite one would the story of Ginnifer Goodwins character.

Based on the title you'd think the stories would be rather one sided and that it would only show women and their bad experiences with men. But that's not the case. The movie features both sides of the story. There's even a story of a man and a girl who's not into him.

The movie has its fair share of funny and dramatic moments. And the star studded cast was nice to see. All in all it thought this movie ok.

weekend mode!

the weekend is almost here! and i'm on weekend mode already. we don't really have anything planned for the weekend though. hehe.. so far the only plan is to go to Moomba after work for a get together with Cza's high school friends. Cza's friends are nice and fun bunch. so i'm looking forward to goin out later.

since we really don't have any plans for the weekend yet. i thought i'd list down some things to do:

1. Spend time with Cza
yeah i know we already spend most of our time together. but what can say. i enjoy spending time with her.

2. Get some sleep
i try to get 8 hours of sleep on the weekends. it's the only time i get to do so. i usually sleep for 5 hours at most.

3. Go to the Gym
i desperately need to get back into shape. must loose 20 lbs. i'll try to loose 10 more if ever i do loose 20. but it depends on how i'll look when that time comes. i don't want to be too thin.

4. Watch a movie
can this be considered a vice? because if it is. then this is really mine. i'm a movie freak.

5. Go to Mass
but of course.

hmmmmm.. that's all i can think of for now. other things to do usually come up throughout the weekend anyway. but no biggie if nothing else does. the important is thing is to relax and not think of work. hehehe.. Have a nice weekend everyone!=)

It was Alexens birthday yesterday. We went to Sidebar in El Pueblo Ortigas where he treated us to a few drinks. It was nice going to Sidebar again. I haven't been there in while. Unlike when I used to work at SVI. I was there regularly.

Based on the trailer I assumed that this was just another dog movie. I wasn't planning to watch this. Well, at least not in the cinema. It's the type of movie which I was planning to watch on DVD. But during our valentines date. Kai, one ofCza's sanity keeper, texted her and said that the movie is really nice. And so based on her recommendation. We decided to catch it the very next day.

Kai also mentioned that this movie is bit of a tearjerker. I guess thanks are in order. I'm a bit of a sap myself. So this info allowed me to MAN UP and not cry in the cinema..hehe

This turned out to be a nice one indeed. It so much more than just a typical dog movie. It's a dramedy about a married couple, John & Jenny Grogan(Wilson & Aniston), going through life with the worst dog in the world. Marley, the dog, chews everything, howls during thunderstorms, eats a lot, poops a lot and seems to chase whatever moves. But he's a lucky dog as well because he found a home with the Grogans . Other couples might not have the same patience as they do. Moments of Marley wreaking havoc is fun to watch. You expect the Grogans to finally get fed up with him and get rid of him. But instead they grew to love him. And we the audience begin to love Marley too.

I don't want to spoil too much of what happens in the movie. But this movie is heart warming and you may cry by the end of it. It's a very good movie to see. So do go and catch it if you can. And if you don't have one yet, you may want to go and get a dog after watching this film.

The Pink Panther 2

Steve Martin is one of my favorite comedians. He has a certain style of humor which I find amusing. When I first read news a couple of years ago of him planning to star as Jacques Clouseau, in a prequel to the classic Pink Panther movies. I was afraid for him. The bumbling Inspector is a role immortalized by the late great Peter Sellers(pictured below). And it's a pretty bold move for Martins part to revive the character. I expected the first film to be a huge disappointment. Luckily, it turned out to be a fairly enjoyable film. Good enough to merit a sequel.

I haven't seen any of the original Pink Panther films. So I can't really say who does a better Clouseau. But in my opinion, I think Steve Martin has held his own with his rendition of the character.

The Pink Panther 2 delivers the same laughs and gags brought to us by it's predecessor. So if you enjoyed the first movie, it's fair to say you'll enjoy this one too.

The movie is a bit slap sticky and may not appeal to all. But this is the type of film that comes off as funny if you allow yourself to laugh at the ridiculous. The best way to enjoy this film is to leave all seriousness outside the cinema. Clear your mind, sit back and just have fun.

Cafe Bola

It's Friday night, the day before Valentines day. All Cza and I had planned was a simple dinner and watch Pink Panther 2 afterwards. We decided to eat at Cafe Bola because it wasn't too expensive. I think, both of us were thinking of going all out for our VDay date tomorrow. Plus we haven't eaten at Cafe Bola for some time.

Sometimes, when you go and visit a place you haven't been to in a while. You find yourself having a nice time. And this is one of those times.

Cream of Mushroom Soup
This is actually my favorite here in Cafe Bola.
I'd keep coming back here for this.

Adobo Flakes + Kesong Puti
This is nice too. Nothing out of this world or
anything. It's adobo presented in fancy manner.

Caramelized Spam + Egg
This was nice as well. And since it's the day
before valentines day. They put a little twist
with the egg and shaped it into a heart.

Gran Torino

I've been reading a lot of good reviews and acting praises for Clint Eastwood in this movie. I finally got to watch it last weekend. And this indeed is a good movie!

As a director, Clint Eastwood has already proven that he is a great one. He even has two Best Director Oscars to back it up. And though he's already achieved Oscar glory, he's not slowing down yet. He's capable of releasing not just one good movie a year, but two. A couple of years ago, he released 'Flags of our Fathers' and 'Letters from Iwo Jima'. And early last year he released 'Changeling'. Another good movie which resulted in an Oscar nomination for Angelina Jolie. And by the end of last year he brings us Gran Torino.

Not only does Clint Eastwood treat us with his mastery of movie story telling. But he elevates himself by delivering an amazing acting performance. He stars in this movie as somewhat grumpy old bigot named Walt Kowalski. His wife recently passed away and he's now living alone in a neighborhood invaded by Koreans. Which is ironic for him since he's a Korean War veteran.

Now that he's living alone, all he wants to do is be left alone. Spend his days maintain his house, drinking beer on his porch and keeping his 1972 Gran Torino in mint condition. It's his most prized possession.

Everything changes however when some gang was causing trouble with his Korean neighbor. He brings out his rifle and drives the gang away. His entire neighborhood considered his act as heroic. But all he wanted was keep people away from his property. And this event results in him eventually getting to know his Korean neighbors and they become part of his life.

The nice thing about this movie is that it's not all drama. There are some humorous and heartwarming moments in it. And there's a little bit of action as well. Which is why Clint Eastwood is getting well deserved praise for his work in this film. He portrayed Walt as a very unpleasant person. But as the story moves on, you begin to see him as a good person even though his character never really changed. We just got to know him better. And it's also amazing that he was able to effectively show us that a 78 year old man can still be an action hero.

When you get the chance and if your in the mood for a good story. Go and watch this movie. It's definitely a nice film to see.

Wham Burgers & Yes Man

Wham Burgers
Last Saturday, Cza and I decided to watch a movie at Shangri La Mall. Originally we were supposed to watch 'Milk'. But then we saw that 'Yes Man' was still showing in Shangri La and thought of watching it instead. We'll watch 'Milk' next time.

After buying the tickets, we thought grabbing something to eat first. We found ourselves eating at Wham Burgers. We never got to taste the burgers the last time we were supposed to eat there because we were going to be late for the movie. It's a good thing we had some spare time now.

At Wham Burger, I was curious to try the double wham burger at first. But then I thought it might be too much for me to finish. So I opted to just try the basic Wham Burger w/ Cheese. Cza had the same. And we ordered some criss cross fries as well.

Our order. Sorry I wasn't able to take a closer pic of the burgers. We were really hungry and was excited to try the burgers. And the charbroiled burgers did not disappointl. They were really tasty. The bread was soft and good. It's a good thing I didn't go for the double wham burger. The Wham Burger w/ Cheese was already filling. Oh and surprisingly, the criss cross fries was really good too. Will definitely be going back to Wham Burger again to try out the other burgers.

Yes Man

It's been a while I think since Jim Carrey made a movie. So I was kinda looking forward to this one. Liar Liar is one of my favorite funny movies. And I was hoping this movie would be as funny too.

And the verdict.. Well, this movie isn't as funny as Liar Liar. But I wasn't disappointed at all with this film. It was funny too. I found myself laughing a lot of times. Cza can attest to that. My favorite part in the movie was when there was a man attempting to jump off a building, and Jim Carrey tries to stop him by playing the guitar and singing Third Eye Blinds Jumper.

Yes Man is an enjoyable film. It's a nice film to see if your looking for a few laughs. Plus the whole idea of saying Yes to life is something to think about. This film is actually based on a novell by Danny Wallace, a man who decided to spend a year saying Yes where one would have said No. I think it's good be adventurous and try new and different things. After all, if you haven't tried, then you haven't really lived.

Seven Pounds

Wasn't really looking forward to seeing this movie. Didn't get all excited to watch it based on the trailers. I was ok to watch it on DVD. But then destiny came knockin with free tickets to it's advance screening at Glorietta 4. So hence, I got to watch this movie for free with Cza and her two best friends, Myra & James.

Seven Pounds is a movie starring Will Smith as an IRS agent named Ben Thomas. Oh so it seems. This movie revolves around the mystery of who Ben Thomas is. Why he is who he is. What he's planning to do. And who are the seven strangers he's going to help and why.

The movie is a bit long. And after an hour you may get restless because nothing is revealed until the very last quarter of the movie. You may begin to think, when will this movie start making sense. At this point it's make or break for the movie. Everything now hangs on whether you'll be satisfied with the ending or not.

I guess that's where this movie is effective. It does a great job in hooking you to the story. There are times when the movie gets dragging. But you can't really walk away from it because deep down, you'd like to see how it ends.

I think Will Smith displays some of his finest acting in this film. He portrays Ben Thomas as charming, smart, mysterious and a determined character. His best scenes are when he's alone and he makes a face wherein you know he's a man scarred. Too bad there were a lot of great acting performances this year. Will Smith could have had a chance at a nomination for Best Actor.

All in all, I found Seven Pounds to be OK. It's not the type of movie I'd like watch over and over again. But I enjoyed it the one time I saw it.

Savory Chicken

On Sundays, Cza and I usually hear mass at Gateway and then have dinner afterwards. Last Sunday She gave me the task of deciding where to have dinner again. For some sort reason, I was in the mood for chicken. But I didn't want to eat chicken at the usual places we go to like kfc or pancake house. And then I remembered she took me to a restaurant in Ali Mall before where I was sure I enjoyed the chicken. I couldn't remember the name of the restaurant so I asked her. She knew right away which restaurant I was referring to upon hearing 'Yummy Chicken' and 'Ali Mall'. The name of the restaurant is Savory Chicken.

At Savory Chicken, we ordered the Cream of Crab and Corn Soup, 1/2 Chicken and 2 cups of rice(one cup for each of us)

This was really nice and is good for 4 people. We
weren't able to finish this and ended up bringing
the left over home.

Our main reason for eating here. This Chicken

chicken really tasty. Living up to it's
Savory name.
